Elementary Spanish Curriculum
Classes in all levels (K-5) will be taught Spanish through hands-on, interactive, visual, oral, and musical methods. Learning another language other than English contributes to the knowledge and understanding of language structure in general, as well as, developing a value of other cultures.
Our curriculum is Sonrisas Spanish Level I and Level II.
Listening skills will be developed by following oral directions, engaging in basic conversations, and identification activities.
To encourage speaking skills, along with building vocabulary, the following approaches will be part of every class:

** All students are expected to participate and learn with the same behavior expectations as in their regular classroom.
Kindergarten Spanish
Subjects below will be covered and used with simple sentences, commands, and questions. Students will learn adjectives for description and basic verbs. Oral repetition, visuals, physical enactments, and some drawing/writing will be the main tools for learning our lessons. Music, stories, and rhymes will also be included.
** Classroom behavior expectations will also be communicated in Spanish.
First & Second Grade Spanish
The topics below will be expanded on as appropriate for the grade level. All subjects will involve learning a new question or statement. Oral repetition, visuals, physical enactments, writing/drawing, music, stories and rhymes continue to be key teaching elements. We will expand on use of adjectives and verbs, and use of the masculine & feminine articles.
I will encourage more responses to questions. The use of formal versus informal addresses will be introduced.

Third – Fifth Grade Spanish
Subjects below are the same as the lower level grades but with more conversation and expansion of description, answering in complete sentences, writing, and conversational practice. We will begin to conjugate verbs and expand on pronoun usage. Oral repetition, visuals, physical enactments, writing/drawing, music, stories and rhymes continue to be key teaching elements. Simple oral instructions will be given in Spanish.
