Spanish (K-5)

Elementary Spanish Curriculum

Classes in all levels (K-5) will be taught Spanish through hands-on, interactive, visual, oral, and musical methods. Learning another language other than English contributes to the knowledge and understanding of language structure in general, as well as, developing a value of other cultures.

Our curriculum is Sonrisas Spanish Level I and Level II.

Listening skills will be developed by following oral directions, engaging in basic conversations, and identification activities.

To encourage speaking skills, along with building vocabulary, the following approaches will be part of every class:

  • Description of experiences, interests, feelings.
  • Asking simple questions.
  • Re-telling experiences using words, phrases, props.
  • Expressing needs.

Students will participate and learn through:

  • singing
  • movement
  • stories
  • listening
  • creating
  • responding
  • games

** All students are expected to participate and learn with the same behavior expectations as in their regular classroom.

Subjects below will be covered and used with simple sentences, commands, and questions. Students will learn adjectives for description and basic verbs. Oral repetition, visuals, physical enactments, and some drawing/writing will be the main tools for learning our lessons. Music, stories, and rhymes will also be included.

Oral repetition, visuals, physical enactments, writing/drawing, music, stories and rhymes continue to be key teaching elements. We will expand on use of adjectives and verbs, and use of the masculine & feminine articles.
I will encourage more responses to questions. The use of formal versus informal addresses will be introduced.
